New Features

Custom Figure Data

Using the new Custom Key inspector panel you can create custom data keys in your project, such as Student Name, Grade, and Effort. The value data format can be specified as text, or a formatted numeric with support for percentages, ordinals, localized currency symbol, decimal symbol, and thousands separator.

Values for these custom data keys can then be set for any figure within your project. After a value is entered, Curio will format it based on the settings associated with that custom data key. In hierarchical collections such as lists and mind maps, numeric custom values will automatically sum up to parent node figures.

The Search shelf supports searching via operators of custom data values (e.g. Price > 50), and search results text and CSV exports include custom data. Exporting and importing of figures support meta attributes, such as Exam @FirstName="Charlie Brown" @Grade="89".

Appearance Themes

In addition to the simple dark and light mode toggle, Curio Standard and Professional include support for appearance themes, allowing you to change the look of the Curio user interface even further.

Curio Standard comes bundled with several included themes such as a palette of blues, bright shades of yellow, or dark shades of black for midnight workaholics.

Curio Professional kicks it up a notch, allowing you to create your own custom themes by combining display properties such as dark mode; window, Organizer, inspector bar, and shelf background coloring; Organizer text coloring; and even idea space background coloring instead of the default white background!

Traditional Licenses Include 1 Year of Updates

When you purchase a traditional license from our website, you now get one free year of app updates including major and minor features, fixes, and updates for macOS compatibility. This allows us to release major features much more frequently instead of queuing a large number of features for a massive release.

At the end of this period, your Curio app continues working normally – it does not expire or deactivate – however, you will no longer receive app updates. Whenever you wish, you can purchase an upgrade license to update to the latest version and receive another year of app updates.

After purchasing an upgrade, your Curio app will automatically update itself to the latest release - no need to manually download or install anything or even enter a new license key!

The License dialog has also been revamped to show your license details including free updates end date, number of activations, any major versions available as a free update either on your current macOS or a newer macOS, and any Curio releases available if you were to upgrade your license.

More details on why this change was made can be found in our Curio Traditional Licenses FAQ.

Online Documentation

The Curio product documentation is now hosted on the Zengobi website.

Moving it out of the bundled Welcome to Curio project significantly shrinks the size of the downloaded app and allows us to dynamically make changes without requiring a new build and product release.

We can also make these release notes much more concise by summarizing the new features or changes. Simply click the "Learn more ›" links alongside each item to jump to that feature in the online documentation for complete details.

Within the Curio app, several Help menu items now jump to the online documentation including Curio Documentation, Curio Keyboard Shortcuts, and Advanced Preferences. In addition, the Help menu's search field at the very top sends the entered search phrase directly to the online documentation for instant searching.

More Improvements

  • Auto-detection of markdown syntax and enabling of markdown rendering is now on by default but can be toggled via the Edit menu.
  • Line inspector has a new Swap button to swap the tail and head decorations.
  • Ratings via number keyboard shortcut can now be disable via advanced preferences.
  • Several internal mind map offsets can now be overridden via advanced preferences.

Fixes

  • Fixed double-click to rename tag or tag set in its inspector.
  • Fixed issues with rename Sleuth site groups and moving new sites between groups.
  • Fixed issue so you can Show Caption if even one selected image doesn't have a caption.
  • Rendering drastically scaled images is now clearer on Retina displays.
