In Curio, I can drag-and-drop and single page .pdf file into a blank idea space and it brings it in as an image. However, if I do the same thing with a multi-page .pdf file then it brings the file over as an embedded icon. Is there a way to make Curio create multiple image files, one per page within the .pdf file?

I use Curio to create project notebooks. At any time during a project's lifespan, I need to export the notebook to a single .pdf file. I like to pull pages in from .pdf files from status reports, budget reports, schedules, etc., but at present I have to pull apart .pdf files which is quite laborious.

My real wish is to have Curio open the .pdf and resize and order each page into a multi-paged idea space so that each page takes one page within the idea space.

Is this possible to do right now? If not, can I get it added to the wish list?

Thanks

Are you dragging the PDF file from the Finder? Curio should render them the same regardless of its contained number of pages. We simply ask the Mac's built-in image class to render a preview for us.

If you're dragging it from within Preview or some other app I wonder if it's putting an image representation on the clipboard when it's just a single page vs. a file name if it's a multi-page. We determine it's a PDF based on the filename ('.pdf'). So the image apparently is showing as a preview but the .pdf file is showing as an icon.

Right click on the resulting asset figure and choose Show As Preview. When it looks correct you can choose Format > Set As Default Format For PDF Figure to make that the default look.

Sounds like you may want to learn more about Spread PDF:

Drag the file on to an Idea Space (doing this with the option key down makes the asset an alias to the file rather than copying in the entire PDF file). Size and position the PDF image of the file on the Idea Space as you want it to be.

Now go to the Organizer pane and locate that Idea Space. Control-click on the Idea Space in the Organizer pane to get contextual menu. Select the bottom option --> Spread PDF. This will generate a multi-page set of Idea Spaces with all pages from the PDF.

I use this method to grade class assignments. I pull a PDF file (the student's submission) on to a two-page wide Idea Space. I position the page to occupy the left side of that Idea Space. Then, I Spread PDF to get all pages in their assignment, with a space on the right of each page to make notations and notes.

You can also drag individual PDF pages on to an Idea Space. Open your multi-page PDF in Preview. Open the document sidebar (on the right side). Grab a page that you want to copy over and drop it on an Idea Space. Just that page is copied over.

This is great! Thanks!

Is it possible to get the .pdf to spread itself out on multiple pages within a single idea space?

We don't offer anything like that yet. It becoming a surprisingly popular request, though.
