We've been using the same app icon for years and I think it's time for something new. Can anyone out there recommend a super-fantastic Mac icon designer?

Have you considered first taking user submissions? If they don't look appealing enough (or no one submits them Smile) then you could pay someone.

I'd love to see some user submissions! Very Happy If you have an icon you'd like to submit then send it to george at zengobi and I'll check it out. Great idea!

George - call me anti-change if you like, but I think your current icon is great. It really stands out on my Dock, and is a terrific example of a 3D figure and the use of transparency. I love it!

Perhaps just changing the colour - say, to red or whatever - would maintain the character but give the "newness" required?

My vote (unasked for, I know) goes for no change, or just a colour change.

Funny that you say that. While the Curio icon is getting a bit old I also appreciate how unique it looks on my Dock. All the others seem to blend together....

Maybe the colour could indicate the version?

Curio Blue = v5

Curio Red = v6

etc, etc

A crazy thought occurred to me last night: what if the icon changed based on your Status jewel color?

In other words, just like the Status shelf's tab shows a green, yellow, red, etc jewel based on your current status, I could color the Curio icon in the dock similarly.

So, just glancing at your shelf and seeing a red Curio icon would help you realize you have things that are overdue.[/quote]

George - brilliant! A stroke of pure genius...!

So the icon sitting on the dock would also serve as an alert.

Fan-bloody-tastic as we say here Down Under Smile

I want to second NighStalker's vote: please no change on the design, it is already super!

My two bits:

It drives me NUTS when companies change the logo, because I always end up down on the dock looking for it.

I like the logo design.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I also agree about Kaishin's icon. Nicely done.

Curio is definitely in need of a new icon as I see it.

I know that there is a confusion factor whenever a
software manufacturer or developer decides to alter
an icon, but Curio's icon was the first thing that I changed
when I started using this program. The icon just doesn't
tell us anything about the program, and it doesn't
communicate its personality or style.

For me, Curio is an all-in-one binder and scrapbook,
one which happens to support a lot of different methods
of getting ideas down, in both audio, video and textual
formats. That's where the appeal of this application lies,
as a juiced-up idea management system.

To replace Curio's icon in the Dock, I went to
findicons.com, typed in notebook, and found a
bunch of photo-realistic icons that seemed a lot more
appropriate.

For instance:
http://findicons.com/icon/25938/notebook?id=26121
http://findicons.com/icon/130335/notebook?id=130348

Of course, Kaishin's icon is quite appropriate too,
how it displays the original Curio icon in sketch format,
while placing it in a larger context.

Curio is an application that does a lot of different things,
all with the total goal of helping you to manage and develop
your ideas. The look and feel of the application, from the
Dock icon to the UI, should completely reflect that.

I have a lot of really good things to say about Curio now, but really am looking forward to a more appropriate icon!

Hi everyone,

Glad to hear that you liked the icon I designed for Curio.

I would like to point out that the link to download the icons has changed since.
Here is the new link http://kaishinlab.com/curio/

Cheers,

I really like this icon. I know some folks are attached to the old one, but it really doesn't sell Curio. While it shouldn't matter, it seems to more with mac folks. So Kaishin get's my vote.
