Curio 6's release is right around the corner!

Filled with lots of big features and wonderful enhancements along with the usual potpourri of tweaks and fixes.

The big feature of Curio 6 is... tables!

Yeppers, native integrated tables. Complete with row and column headers and footers. Fully customizable style support so you can change the look of your table with a click. Cells support all the usual figure adornments such as checkmarks, flags, start/due dates, priorities, and ratings.

Easily drag images, text, weblinks, movies, and documents directly into a table cell from your idea space or perhaps another collection or even Safari or the Finder. Likewise, simply drag items out of your table to the idea space or another collection.

Want to create a quick matrix of photos? Create a table then drag and drop a ton of images to the table figure. Curio will automatically add rows as needed to nicely show off your images.

Want to show some Excel or Numbers data? No problem. Create a table then copy/paste a selection of cells from either app and paste into Curio. Curio will automatically grow columns and rows to encompass the pasted data. You can also go in the other direction: copying a selection of Curio table cells for pasting into Excel or Numbers.

And, of course, Curio's tables fully support CSV importing and exporting.

I'll talk more about the upcoming Curio 6 release over the next few weeks so stay tuned for more details. And all customers who purchased a new or upgrade license to Curio 5 on or after July 1st, 2009 will receive a complimentary upgrade to Curio 6 when it is released.

  • Boy does that hit the spot! Flexible tables was something that I thought would be wonderful and it looks great. Can't wait to get the finished version. I suppose that this new version will be more than ready for Snow Leopard?

  • I'll make sure it is.

  • How about including a word count function - count the words in a selected piece of text?

  • I love Curio - it is already absolutely amazing - thank you so much. For me Curio is in the top five of Mac OSX Software.
Can I include a Curio 6 MindMap in a Curio 6 table cell?
Does a Curio 6 MindMap branch can contain a Curio 6 table?

  • Chitin5: more screenshots are coming soon.

Stuart: you might want to investigate a word count script that can plug into the Mac's Services menu. A quick google query found this one on DaringFireball: http://daringfireball.net/2007/01/word_count_script_for_thisservice

R5: you can't currently include a collection within a collection. That is, you can't include a mind map in a list, or a table in a mind map, etc. It's possible that we could support that down the road but it adds a huge layer of complexity so we'll see.

  • mind maps in table cells:

XMind is so far the only programm i know that let's you add mind maps into the cells of a table. The different branches of a mind map can be connected with a branch of a mind map in another cell. This allows me to theoretically create visualizations that are better and clearer than concept maps. However - XMind crashed several times and i lost confidence. Curio is much more stable and has many other advantages. I hope that you can integrate that functionality in the future.
Currently I can imitate the functionality in Curio manually: I align different mind maps horizontally and vertically.
I appreciate very much the stability of Curio. If you risk the stability in adding a huge layer of complexity i would say let it be.

I'm not an expert but i have a little idea how this could possibly be solved without adding a huge layer of complexity: If the rectangular borders of a collection/object (mind map, list, curio 6 table etc.) could be optionally changed to a "magnetic" behavior they could be attached to each other easier/ semiautomatically. If a single collection/ object grows or shrinks the other ones (in the same row/column) of this group would automatically move horizontally, vertically and grow or shrink. Together they were also a "table" with a unique name. Every collection/ object in this table would have an additional unique "attribut" (like A1, A2 etc.) to control the position and size according to the highest or broadest in the row/ column.

By the way - the announced new table features for Curio 6 are fantastic - I cannot wait for Curio 6 and Snow Leopard

  • Just wanted to say I recently went back to the Mac platform and commonly used MS OneNote on the tablet PC. It took me awhile to find the right app but eventually I did, and I'd have to say Curio is THE app on Mac that perhaps in my opinion blows away OneNote. It's simple to use, interface is well designed, and it's definitely much more flexible and robust. Very very very awesome app.

  • CURIO for the iPhone? I use Curio 5 and will definitely upgrade to 6, but it would really be handy to have an iPhone app!

  • Curio for the iPhone is of great interest to lots of our customers but Curio itself is too huge to bring to the iPhone.

Is there a specific piece of Curio's functionality that you'd love to see on the iPhone? Just viewing your Curio projects (but read-only) or to-do list and due date tracking or mind maps or snippet (text, voice, picture) gathering?

Perhaps for a larger discussion about this topic we could bring it into the forums to gather feedback from everyone.

  • Curio for iphone - have the status shelf on board, with the ability to complete actions or create new ones

  • I think it would be awesome if the to-do lists could be viewed on IPhone and then a feature allowing you to see your idea space perhaps.

Right now the To-do lists would top my list because while I'm on the go I go off my iphone/touch to complete my to-do lists.

    For what it's worth...

  • Speaking of Curio and the iPhone, I would love to see an app that allows creation of Mind Maps that can be imported into Curio. I have an app that creates Mind Maps called SimpleMindX but it does not integrate...
