Curio 6 preview: figure stencils!
Thursday, August 20, 2009
Time for another Curio 6 teaser: figure stencils!Figure stencils allow you to easily create, re-use, and share frequently used figures and grouped figures.
It's perfect for boilerplate text items, or mind map, list or table templates, or various types of lines and arrow styles, or geographic maps, or floor plans, or garden plans, or UI prototypes, etc.
Just drag an idea space containing your stencils into the new Stencils shelf and, poof, the contents are snarfed up and stored in the Stencils repository where they are accessible to any project.
You can drag all the elements from a stencil to your idea space or double-click on the stencil to drill-down and find a specific individual stencil element.
Stencils can be organized into one or more custom collections so you can add a stencil to your Favorites, School, and Latest Project collections.
Like Idea Space Templates, Figure Stencils is a Curio Pro-only feature so there's another good reason to upgrade to Pro if you haven't already.
Stay tuned for more news about the upcoming Curio 6 release!

iPhone stencil set? :)

That would be an awesome stencil set! If you create a stencil, you can easily contribute it to the Curio Community Center to share with everyone.

Any chance we'll see more control over the mindmaps? It's absolutely maddening to modify or try to move them. They look great and creating them is easy but if I'm working in Curio I'm both brainstorming and creating for demonstration and right now the mindmaps are only good for brainstorming.
Anyway, glad to see tables and the stencil sets!

Lots of changes to both lists and mind mapping in other areas but no changes were made to the mind map positioning code other than tweaks and cleanup.
Bounce me an email with specifics (or start a forum thread) and let's hash out what you're looking for.

Really looking forward to version 6, I'm still finding new features in version 5 that I didn't know about.
One thing I'd find extremely useful is a tabbed organizer within an Ideaspace.
There are times I have items that are closely related, and should not be on separate ideaspaces, but my ideaspace becomes to cluttered. The ability to put different things into a tabbed organizer, within an ideaspace would be awesome :-)

How difficult would it be to allow importing of stencil sets from OmniGraffle. They have a couple iPhone stencils I use regularly.

It's a bit tricky, especially the way they do tables. It'd actually be pretty simple to re-create the iPhone stencil within Curio if you had all the right images.
