Fun times: Italian cream sodas
Thursday, March 06, 2008
Here's a fun posting because I'm in a happy mood:A few weeks ago, I stopped by a neighborhood coffee shop and, on a whim, purchased an Italian cream soda flavored with banana and white chocolate as recommended by the barista.
One word: wow!
The next day, I found myself trying to recreate the experience at home with banana nectar, white chocolate syrup, club soda, ice, and half-and-half. It was awesome!
Then, before you could say that's amore, I found myself at Lollicup ordering 12, yes 12, bottles of various Monin syrup flavorings.
I'm in flavor heaven. :-)

George - Please post your winning formula. We're big fans of cream soda and would love to make our own!
And while I have the floor, let me just say that Curio is one the greatest apps I have ever used. It consistently makes me look a lot smarter than I really am!

I'm still experimenting, but here's what I'm doing:
2 tablespoons Monin banana
2 tablespoons Monin white chocolate
1/4 cup half-and-half
ice
club soda (not tonic water! quinine is blech.)
Mix the syrups and half-and-half in a tall glass. Add the ice then fill with club soda.
Yum!
By the way, if you have squirters for your Monin bottles then 2 squirts is roughly a tablespoon.
If you have variations then please let me know. Also please let me know about syrup flavor combinations.
This was so much fun to type, I just made another drink. :-) These are so much better than colas.
Enjoy!

Upon further testing you can cut back on the half-and-half a bit. I'm using just a dollop (maybe two tablespoons) now and mixing it with milk.
As an aside, the syrups are also handy with tea and coffee. A little squirt of Cinnamon or Irish Cream makes things yummy.
