Curio 3.0.2 update with minor fixes
Wednesday, March 01, 2006
We just released a minor 3.0.2 update for all you 3.0.x users out there.Lots of little fixes plus some minor features as well. For instance, via Curio's preferences you now can specify the monitor to present the slideshow. Also, by default, Curio will present only the "minimum bounds" of your idea spaces. So empty space is automatically cropped away before presenting, which allows for much nicer looking slides since we don't have to scale as much. You can enable or disable this feature through Curio's preferences as well.
Plus a slick change to the Project Center so if we can't find a project, like it has been moved to another volume, you can now locate it for Curio and we'll remember the new location.
We hope everyone enjoys the new release and please, as always, send us any feedback or suggestions. You can download the update here.

Bravissimo for your amazing masterpiece!
I'm writing an Opera for children and I'm beside myself with joy using Curio which is so intuitive, pretty and already quasi perfect.
I have ruined myself with so many notebooks I bought in bulk... this one is not the cheapest(...) but is worth looking at... one's billfold.
A suggestion: is it possible to make "jump target" function more accurate and let it memorize the scroll position for the page?
And also of course, when we search for a word, see a selection of that
word into its page; currently I see only the page which contains the word, without any selection.
Bravo again

Thanks for the kind words! We have plans to refine our find functionality to highlight the found words. I like your jump target idea -- I've added it to our to-do list.

I just wanted to chime in and mention that you can set a jump target to target a specific figure on an idea space, instead of just the idea space itself. That way, when "making the jump" Curio will switch to the appropriate idea space then center the specific figure within the view (scrolling the idea space as necessary).
Thanks again for your feedback and kind comments!

Howdy,
Just thought I would chime in with my praise: I'm having a blast working with Curio, it's an excellent tool. As a student I've been using it to take notes in my classes (which it is ideally suited to, thanks to the shortcut keys for switching between text and pen input) and draft assignments before finalizing them in TeX. (I also want to thank you guys for offering such an excellent academic price)
Out of curiosity, is it currently possible to scale a selected scribble? My tablet-to-screen size ratio sometimes causes my quick notes to be comically large :)
Anyhow, thanks again for the excellent software, I look forward to seeing where you guys go with it.
Regards,
Ben

Greg, I did not realize it was so easy to add a small target INSIDE a text, like a red line or a circle.Curio is terrific, assuredly; however I'm (we are) missing a replace function which would be a very important addition to the incredibly powerful find system.
To-do or not to-do list?

Ben: We have heard lots of feedback from people requesting additional bitmap tools. We do have a workaround in the meantime:
You can convert your scribble into an image figure by selecting the scribble, choosing Edit > Copy As > TIFF, and then doing a Paste. Ta da! You now have a scalable image figure. The unfortunate side effect is, as an image, it's uneditable within Curio, although you can double-click it to edit it in Photoshop or some other bitmap editor of course.
We'll work on a more streamlined technique for a future release. :-)
If you have any suggestions on how to make Curio even better when taking notes in class then please send them our way!

Jean-Louis,
Definitely on the to-do list, though it may be a little tricky for us to implement. We definitely want to provide that functionality, though.
Thanks again for your great feedback!

Hello 2G
After three days full off enthusiastic Ohs! & Ahs!a little bug (two times today) after a presentation on my two screens config: just after the escape key the whole menu disappears and it's impossible to retrieve it without a quit and relaunch. The second time it was only frozen. During that problem, I could meanwhile use Curio.
I think it appears when I double-click on a text page and just after I press escape key.
Aaaaah? Ooooh!

A small improvement: flag positioning; currently they stay at the middle-left of a text asset and at the middle-down of a graphic one. When the text is big, it would be easier to see flags on top...
A so tiny drop in an ocean of satisfaction!

...
A contextual menu (showing the organizer structure) to make a fast link from an asset to an idea space.

Hi Jean-Louis,
Your presentation problem: if you can, please send a sample Curio project to support@zengobi.com and we'll look at it immediately. I can't reproduce the problem with either a text figure or an embedded text file. But we'll figure out the issue ASAP! When you double-click an asset we temporarily hide Curio and launch the appropriate app (like TextEdit). You should be able to click back on Curio to bring us back. Then escape to end the presentation.
Flag positioning: definitely on the to-do list!
Context menu fast link to idea space: great idea!
Thanks for the comments!

Thank you George, for your Sunday morning responsiveness !
Today, I can't reproduce my menu problem... May be a conflict with a bad app in memory... Sorry for the disturbance!
My daily remarks:
Is it possible from library to select the asset in its idea space when we use the contextual menu "idea spaces". Currently, only the idea space is shown
Exporting HTML seems to export text as bitmap. What to do to retain text ?
The "copy as..." function is sensational; currently, as a workaround, I copy my texts as PDF (and squeeze them into buttons) to make a search in them. As there is no replace function into pdfs, is it imaginable to improve "copy as..." with custom formats? I know I could use "create document" function but "copy as..." is faster for that
Outside the weather is bad but here Curio is shining.
To be continued...

Hi Jean-Louis,
It might be best if we continue our discussion via email so we can go into detail outside this particular blog topic. Contact us at support@zengobi.com if you have any questions at all.
To quickly answer your current questions:
- Selecting the asset after jumping to the idea space via the Library's Idea Spaces context menu is a good idea.
- HTML exporting is an image map to insure that all font, styles, positioning, rotation, and formatting is identical no matter what platform or browser. This is a particularly tricky issue and worthy of a FAQ actually. To maintain text as text you may want to stick with PDF exporting.
- I think I understand what you're doing with Copy As. Very interesting! At this point, we currently don't have a way to customize Copy As.
Thanks again for you comments!

This is my first visit here so please forgive me if you've covered this. Do you have any plans for a universal binary version of Curio?
By
Terry, at 7:49 PM
Hi Terry,
We're planning on releasing our Universal Binary with Curio 3.1 which will be out later this month. It all works very well in-house on our MacBook Pro so we're excited about releasing it to the world!
